WLAN AutoConfig - Windows 8 Service
The WLANSVC service provides the logic required to configure, discover, connect to, and disconnect from a wireless local area network (WLAN) as defined by IEEE 802.11 standards. It also contains the logic to turn your computer into a software access point so that other devices or computers can connect to your computer wirelessly using a WLAN adapter that can support this. Stopping or disabling the WLANSVC service will make all WLAN adapters on your computer inaccessible from the Windows networking UI. It is strongly recommended that you have the WLANSVC service running if your computer has a WLAN adapter.
This service also exists in Windows 10, 11, 7 and Vista.

Default Behavior
The WLAN AutoConfig service runs as LocalSystem in a shared process of svchost.exe. Other services might run in the same process. If WLAN AutoConfig fails to start, the error is logged. Windows 8 startup proceeds, but a message box is displayed informing you that the WlanSvc service has failed to start.

WLAN AutoConfig won't start, if the following services are stopped or disabled:

Automated Restore
1. Select your Windows 8 release and edition, and then click on the Download button below.
2. Save the RestoreWLANAutoConfigWindows8.bat file to any folder on your hard drive.
3. Right-click the downloaded batch file and select Run as administrator.
4. Restart the computer.
Note. Make sure that the wlansvc.dll file exists in the %WinDir%\System32 folder. If this file is missing you can try to restore it from your Windows 8 installation media.
