Default Behavior
The I8042 Keyboard and PS/2 Mouse Port Driver service is a kernel mode driver. If I8042 Keyboard and PS/2 Mouse Port Driver fails to start, the error is logged. Windows 8 startup proceeds, but a message box is displayed informing you that the i8042prt service has failed to start.
