Host service for the Microsoft Storage Spaces management provider. If this service is stopped or disabled, Storage Spaces cannot be managed.
This service also exists in Windows 10.
|Windows 8 edition||Windows 8||Windows 8.1||Windows 8.1 Update 1|
|Display name:||Microsoft Storage Spaces SMP|
|Path:||%WinDir%\System32\svchost.exe -k smphost|
The Microsoft Storage Spaces SMP service runs as NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService in its own process of svchost.exe. Other services may not run in the same process. If Microsoft Storage Spaces SMP fails to start, the error is logged. Windows 8 startup proceeds, but a message box is displayed informing you that the smphost service has failed to start.
Microsoft Storage Spaces SMP won't start, if the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is stopped or disabled.
