The DCOMLAUNCH service launches COM and DCOM servers in response to object activation requests. If this service is stopped or disabled, programs using COM or DCOM will not function properly. It is strongly recommended that you have the DCOMLAUNCH service running.
|Windows 7 edition||without SP||SP1|
|Display name:||DCOM Server Process Launcher|
|Path:||%WinDir%\system32\svchost.exe -k DcomLaunch|
The DCOM Server Process Launcher service runs as LocalSystem in a shared process. It shares an executable file with other services. If the DCOM Server Process Launcher fails to load or initialize, the error is recorded into the Event Log. Windows 7 startup should proceed, but a message box is displayed informing you that the DcomLaunch service has failed to start.
If the DCOM Server Process Launcher is stopped, the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) fails to start and initialize.
